We have an outside facing web application that all of our trades (I work for a housing construction company) use to get schedules, building plans, etc.
our building plans are all posted in a 3rd party format *.csf that uses a third party viewer brava reader, which is a free download but unfortunatly expires about every 6 months.

The infamous reply to all

Submitted by: Phug – Thu, 05/08/2008 – 14:56

Sadly, we had a reply-to-all fiasco started by a fairly bright individual who just didn't notice he was replying to all the associates in the office.

As usual, we had a few obligatory reply-to-all "I don't think this was meant for me."

Submitted by: Cisco Bigot – Wed, 05/07/2008 – 17:42

I'm a technician at my workplace, and I often wonder some things about my direct supervisor: The almighty "IT Director"

This IT Director doesn't know how to do very much when it comes to computers and networking. He just hides in his office and delegates when trouble tickets come in.

A couple of weeks ago one of our Doctors called me in a panic because the screen on his smartphone went out and he needed a new phone. He was very persistent that he needed all the pictures copied off the old phone and onto the new phone. Luckily I was able to synch the phone and copy the pictures to my pc.

IT Director Heal Thyself

It is hurricane season here in New Orleans and I am reviewing my disaster recovery procedures. We pay a company to host an emergency web site that can be "turned on" during an evacuation and this was the next item to check.

Peter Gabriel's web server stolen

Now, before we start making jokes about the burglar ("Intruder") the tools used for the break-in (obviously a "Sledgehammer"), or what the crooks will face if caught ("Big Time"), now might be a good time to consider how secure (or not) our own data centers are.

Our manufacturing company is reorganizing the I.T. roles. Infrastructure has been designated a "corporate responsibility" and thus all of the servers, network, and support staff have been transferred to the corporate team. Somehow, our I.T. security team was included in this transition.
