Topic(s):
Submitted by: kgagne – Tue, 01/19/2010 – 12:19

Apple has set Jan. 27 as the date they'll be showing off 'our next creation'. Analysts expect it to be a tablet computer — what Wikipedia defines as "a slate-shaped mobile computer device, equipped with a touchscreen or stylus." Such a mobile computer could be a hot ticket for Apple, reaching markets traditionally held by netbooks, cell phones, and PDAs.

I bought a Xerox DC250 in June 2006. This machine was selected after great service from our DC12. At first all was OK. 4 weeks in after the deep pile feeder and de-curler were fitted we had no end of problems. Not only colour issues but with paper curl. Does anyone else have this problem?

To Blacklist or not

I recently ran into a whole new problem with blacklisting. I have been working with computers and network systems for over 20 years. The spam problem is definitely an issue that is not going away any time soon. The blacklisting of spammers was a great idea until the new militant attitude some of these blacklisting companies are taking.

McAfee Rebates

I purchase McAfee Security on 10-31-2009 with a 35.00 rebate offer. Now they want me to prove I purchased it from them even though they put it on my mastercard.
I think they make the rebate so hard to collect that most people just ignore it due to the cost to them to collect it. Whatever happened to Customer Support?????

News would have it that phishing emails are down (I doubt that; the *only* email spam I get these days is phishing). However, the scammers have moved to using SMS and robovoice calls to cell phones now.

Within the past 18 hours, I have gotten phishing SMS and robocalls from or on behalf of the following (enough of them to consider it a denial of service attack):

Those in glass houses

A niche publication for a subset of computer folks that provides lots of critique about how our particular part of the computer industry does their job seems to be having computer troubles of it's own - I went to re-subscribe and found a certificate error on their web server. I then directly replied to the message and got back a message about a database overflow on their router.

Why would anyone use Windoze?

Topic(s):
Submitted by: Anonymous – Thu, 07/16/2009 – 08:44

Internet Exploder has been around the better part of a decade, and yet recent security holes have been discovered that surrender control of one's computer in the event the user visits the "wrong" web site. No other action is required of the user.

This strikes me as the sort of security flaw that has been endemic in windoze for decades.

What do you think about this whole Craiglist stuff?

Personally, I would not use any of the services in question, however, I don't think they should be made to pull that content from their site.

IBM Exiting Intel Server Business

It amazes me that the press has not picked up on the recent deal between IBM and Blade Network Technologies (http://www.bladenetwork.net/). All IBM employees working on the IBM BladeCenter Management Module we laid off from IBM with one day’s notice and no option to accept other available IBM jobs, and told the same day they were all offered jobs at BNT at their current salary.
