Yet another big red button
Not that many years ago I started work with a major company. Just before I started one of the development managers (a rather excitable sort) was giving a group a tour of the computer room. At the conclusion of the tour someone ask "What does that big red button there do?" The manager said if there is an emergency you just push it (pushes the button) and all the power shuts off!

Our office has a 42" plasma screen on the manufacturing floor that we use to post information. Our HR department updates a powerpoint presentation almost daily. Our customers walk by this screen as well, and we frequently put information about them on it when they come to visit. The issue is, our HR folks rely on spell check and don't proof read what they put out there.

CEO calls me to the board room complaining about problems with his laptop.
He says it is slow, then brings up task manager and complains that "system idle process" is taking up all the CPU time at 99%, and then he complains that something is wrong and every time he kills the "explorer" process it keeps coming back.

Boss decided one day to purchase some really awesome blade switch modular ethernet units. After plunking down $100,000 and getting them installed, we noticed that only about 50% of the users could log into the network, and only the other 50% could print.

A few days ago I got an email from my boss (Director of IT) asking my opinion on if we should sign up for insurance against cyber attack. Apperantly she is "not sure if this is necessary ..."
Apparently we have some minimal coverage right now as part of the general insurance package, and someone think we should look into getting more insurance coverage for I.T.

Was working the turn of the millennia. Since we all had to be in the computer room in case of failure, the boss consented to let us have a bit of a party. Feeling jovial the boss brought his family in including his two young daughters. Midnight came and went without serious issue until one of the daughters, noticing the key switch in the master UPS, turned off the data center!

When I was a brand new programmer at my first real IT job my boss asked me to help unload a pallet of paper.
The pallet had been delivered to the front of the building. It was a typical summer afternoon in Louisiana – 99 degrees in the shade with 80% humidity.
