Another scanners are down POS story
I worked for a Point of Sale company and this was right after it had been purchased by someone who had been an NCR Tech for 25 years. Anyway he decided to tag along one day to a customer site that had a sync light indicating the Master and Backup Master item files were out of sync.

My IT director has somehow managed to be in his position for way too long. It's been a worsening problem with him not staying up to date with any new IT trends and technologies. Last week, my colleague and I had a conference call with him. My colleague brought something up and said "You know, like Cloud Computing." Our boss had this weird look on his face.

Was working the turn of the millennia. Since we all had to be in the computer room in case of failure, the boss consented to let us have a bit of a party. Feeling jovial the boss brought his family in including his two young daughters. Midnight came and went without serious issue until one of the daughters, noticing the key switch in the master UPS, turned off the data center!
